About

I am a professional librarian based in Ontario with over 30 years of experience connecting books and readers. I have a passion for reading, connecting readers to books, and helping other librarians to develop and enhance their readers' advisory skills.

Here's a bit about me.

My name is Shonna and I grew up (mostly) in Alberta, living in various places as we moved for my father's work. This moving made me close to my family and instilled my love of travel as well. Beside travel and books, I also love to do needlework.
I read avidly, both fiction and nonfiction, and try to read a fair bit of Canadian authors to get the word out about how good they are. I started my book review blog in January 2007, giving short reviews that are careful to give enough information to be helpful but not giving spoilers.
In 2020 I started a page on Facebook where I do live booktalks that are available for viewing later as well.
I have two blogs, one for book reviews and one dedicated to my own creative endeavours.

  1. Nice to meet you Shonna, and to meet a fellow book lover who also hails from Alberta but now lives in Ontario. I need more Canadian-book-loving-librarians on my side since my first book was published, and in reading your reviews on GoodReads and a few of them here on your blog as well, I feel we are well met.

  2. Hi Shonna, You have a great list of books. I am an author and a filmmaker in Atlanta. I would really love for you to tell me what you think of my book “If the Shoe Fits, Go Barefoot” when you get a chance. I enjoyed reading your post Always Watching by Chevy Stevens. Thanks for sharing!

  3. Hi Shonna,
I'd like to offer my new (Canadian) novel for your review, if you're interested. It was #1 in Amazon CanLit ebooks for a month, but I'd like to reach a wider audience. As a self-published author, the mainstream media tend to avoid it no matter how many bestseller lists it makes. It's a thriller called The Flood.

If you're interested, let me know and I'd send you the ebook file or paperback.

  4. Hi Shonna,

I don't know if I posted my book review totals. I am at 50/13. Also, I don't get any emails about the book review challenges every month. My email is sunnyiroth@gmail.com. Can you please let me know if I am on the right track?

    1. I'm not sure why you're not getting the emails about the monthly post. Did you subscribe to the blog? There is a subscription button in the right column, just below the Challenge stats. I've definitely been seeing your posts in the challenge and will update the stats early next week, when I'm home.

Can you update my completed reviews for the Book review challenge to 50? I am past that now, and will be posting the rest of them. Thank you!

  6. Hi there,

I am at 90/13 books read. And you haven't changed my total to the right. Can you please update the number of books read for 2020 to 90?

    Thank you!

    1. Hi Irene, I was just doing the ones that you added to the Linky each month, so I've gone to your page and added more.
There's a few duplicates in your list, so I have three less than your posted number, but I'm now up-to-date.

  7. Nice to meet you Shonna, I think it's the first time I see your blog, thanks to visiting everyone who just listed their books for the Classic Clubs spin.
I have also been book blogging for a while, though just 11 years.

Can you please revise the number?
